The Dutch Braided Updo by Perky Pony!

Isn’t this updo awesome?!?  When I first showed this style to friends and family, their response was “There is no way I could do this” or “That looks complicated”.   Guess what!  You can do this!  It’s only a few simple steps that can be done by anyone who knows how to braid!  This is great for upcoming holiday festivities and parties, and who doesn’t want a new look to try out?  So WOW your friends at the next celebration with “expert” styling skills!

Dutch Braided Updo Blog1) Start by clipping up about 2 inches of hair by your ears to keep it out of the way.  Then dutch braid your remaining hair.  For those who don’t know how to do this, a dutch braid is the same as a french braid, except that when braiding, cross each strand under instead of over.  By braiding under, instead of over, the braid sits on top of the head more, giving a more pronounced appearance.

2) Thicken the appearance of the braid by pulling on the braid strands.  Start at the top of the braid and work your way down to the nape of the neck.

3) Once you have thickened the top portion of the braid, you can let down the hair by your ears.

4) Tuck the remaining braid under and secure with bobby pins.

5) Taking a strand of hair by your ears, wrap it around the back (twist this hair if desired), and secure with bobby pins

6) Take the second strand and wrap it under the first, being sure to cover up the bobby pin of the first strand.  Secure second strand with a bobby pin and tuck in remaining hair.

At this point, I always want to say, “VIOLA”, for affect and because this look totally calls for it.
